Waves and wind in Ibiza? Amazing! Get your surfboard ready! Although the island of Ibiza is not one of the most typical destinations for surfers, the truth is that it has some beaches where you’ll enjoy catching good waves.
Here is a selection of the best beaches in Ibiza for surfing in an incomparable setting. Are you up for it?
Cala Nova
Very close to the town of Es Canar, in the municipality of Santa Eulària des Riu, you’ll find Cala Nova, a large sandy area open to the sea, with beautiful scenery, easy access and a parking area.
Although it is one of the best-known surfing beaches, it’s not usually crowded. The wind usually blows strongly during the winter and autumn months, and that’s when the easterly swell is common. You’ll enjoy strong currents and waves up to several metres high. What more could you ask for?
Cala Tarida
Cala Tarida is a u-shaped beach with calm and shallow waters, known for being an ideal destination for families with children.
However, during the autumn and winter months, the winds are stronger and the waves are much more pronounced. The beach also has a wide range of leisure facilities, with many shops, restaurants and all necessary services. If you head a little further north, you’ll find small coves where you can surf in peace and quiet.
Aigües Blanques
You will find this beach completely open to the sea, just a few kilometres from Santa Eulària. Although it is protected by a line of cliffs, the winds here are strong, especially when they blow from the east, which creates perfect waves for surfing. You can also go nudist or take a comforting mud bath.
Its name, 'Aigúes Blanques', is due to the constant presence of white foam caused by the strong waves. So, if you are looking for a natural, beautiful paradise with few people, this beach is perfect for you!
Cala Jondal
This beach is located in the municipality of Sant Josep and, in recent years, it has become one of the most popular in Ibiza, with several fashionable beach clubs that bring together many celebrities and famous people.
Cala Jondal is also considered one of the best beaches for surfing. It is characterised as a beach of còdols or pebbles, and it’s surrounded by impressive cliffs and an overall magnificent setting.
Es Cubells
Es Cubells is a somewhat secluded beach, little known and not very well signposted, perfect for surfing on the windiest days, especially during the autumn and winter seasons.
This beach is quite rocky, with hardly any sand, and not very frequented by tourists… A perfect beach for surfing in peace and quiet!
