Discover the Blue Flag beaches in Ibiza and Formentera
The Blue Flag is an award given annually by the Foundation for Environmental Education to beaches and ports that meet a series of requirements. Some of the criteria taken into account in the assessment are the quality of the water, the services and facilities available, or the information and environmental education offered, among many others.
There are many beaches in Ibiza and Formentera that have been awarded this seal of quality. Here are 5 spectacular beaches that you can't miss out on and that we hope you enjoy!
Blue Flag beaches in Ibiza
There are four beaches in Ibiza where the Blue Flag will be flying brightly next summer. They are distributed between the municipalities of Santa Eulària and Sant Joan. These are Cala Sant Vicent, Es Canar, Cala Llenya and es Figueral.
Cala de Sant Vicent
Cala de Sant Vicent, also known as Sa Cala, is located in the northern part of the island. It stands out for being a wide beach with a large sandy area from where you can contemplate the unmistakable silhouette of the islet of Tagomago on the horizon.
This beach, although it has many facilities such as restaurants, supermarkets and hotels, has an unbeatable natural environment. Without a doubt, it’s well worth a visit.
Cala de Es Canar
This beach, located in Santa Eulalia, is known for being a popular destination for family tourism. It’s easily accessible and it has an infinity of restaurants, shops, businesses and many options for practicing water sports.
Its waters are calm and shallow, perfect for the enjoyment of children and also for the peace and quiet of parents. Furthermore, during every Wednesday of the summer months, this area hosts one of the most popular street markets in Ibiza: the Punta Arabí market. Don’t miss it if you get the chance.
Cala Llenya
This is another of the beaches awarded with the Blue Flag. It’s located in Santa Eulària and stands out for its quiet, family atmosphere.
The beach is surrounded by pine trees, easy to access and has a wide range of facilities, such as showers, a beach bar or sun lounger rental, as well as certain infrastructures adapted for people with reduced mobility and pushchairs. You should also bear in mind that every Sunday of the year, the popular Cala Llenya second-hand market is held here.
Es Figueral
In Santa Eulària you’ll also find Es Figueral, a beach with an exceptional landscape composed of leafy forests and spectacular cliffs.
It has shallow waters and a wide variety of facilities, including sun loungers and parasols for hire, access for people with reduced mobility, a large parking area, a beach bar and lifeguard service. You’ll also be surprised by the unbeatable views of the islet of Tagomago.
Blue Flag beaches in Formentera
The island of Formentera has 32 beaches and coves, many of which have been awarded with the Blue Flag.
Ses Illetes
One of the most popular and well-known is Ses Illetes beach, perhaps because of its surroundings and its turquoise blue waters. It’s located on the Es Trucadors peninsula and has a wide range of facilities, including toilets, showers and changing rooms, sun lounger hire, access for people with reduced mobility, a car park and a lifeguard, as well as numerous bars and restaurants.
Given that it’s the closest beach to the port of La Savina, it’s the most frequented by all those who want to spend a day in Formentera. You’ll see that the port itself is the starting point of a bicycle lane to Ses Illetes which runs through the Ses Salines Natural Park.
Although the beach of Ses Illetes is considered the best beach in Europe, there are many beaches in Formentera that have this quality distinction and where, of course, it’s well worth taking a dip. Join us at Aquabus to discover them!
