Espalmador, an island in Formentera

Espalmador is a privately owned island located north of Formentera. This condition means that there are no restaurants or establishments there, since the business and construction of these is prohibited. Espalmador is really small: it is 2920 meters long and 800 meters wide approximately. However, this is precisely what gives her such beauty; that remains untapped year after year, this being the main attraction of all those who seek within the archipelago of the Balearic Islands, a natural paradise with “unevenness”.

However, Espalmador not only has a cliffy coastline, it is also surrounded by two other small islets: Illa Castavi and Illa des Porcs, with white sand beaches, turquoise and crystalline water that have nothing to envy to the Caribbean beaches.

Some of the coves of Espalmador are protected by a small islet that is known as Illa de Sa Torreta, conceiving this as an ideal refuge for boats. Here, you can also take mud baths thanks to the small muddy lagoon that attracts more than one curious. Many of the visitors affirm that a mud bath contains a multitude of natural elements that soften the skin, clean it of impurities and provide the body with nourishing properties. Celebrities of world fame have been allowed to see smeared by these muds, as is the case of Paris Hilton or Kate Hudson.

When the tide is low, from the same Formentera, you can walk or even swim to this small islet by a fine sand, known as Es Trocadors, always taking into account the currents of the area.

But not everything stays there, but there are other charming beaches in Espalmador. The cliffside beach closest to Formentera is Racó de S’Alga, which is reached through the Pas des Trucadors.
