Formentera is the little sister of Ibiza, it is a tiny island of the Pitiusas. It offers incredible landscapes of beaches of crystal clear water and natural landscapes that have nothing to envy to the famous Caribbean beaches. In this post we will show 7 things to do to know the most charming corners of this wonderful island.

Ses Illetes Beach

Ses Illetes is the most famous beach on the island of Formentera. It is located to the north, at the tip of Es Trucadors, 4 km from La Savina. Thanks to the quality of its fine white sand with a very characteristic pinkish hue, and its transparent and crystalline waters, it has been chosen as the best beach in Europe in 2016 and tops the rankings of the best Spanish beaches. It has also been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Windmills of Formentera

As we told in another post, the mills are mandatory stop in the visit to Formentera. There are seven flour mills, of which six are preserved, and five standing. There are two mills in La Mola, the Molí d’en Simon and the Molí d’en Botiga, of which only the tower remains. Two others in Sant Francesc Xavier, the Molí den Mateu and the Molí d’en Gerona; and one in Sant Ferran, the Molí den Tauet. They are a more rustic image of Formentera, in combination with the spectacular views offered by the cliffs.

Sant Francesc Xavier

It is the main town of the island. It is a tiny town, with less than 4000 inhabitants, that helps us to get an idea of the tranquility of Formentera. It is the seat of the town hall and the main services of the island.

Cap de Barbaria

The Cap de Barbaria lighthouse is located in the southern part of the island; in fact, its name comes from its proximity to the African coast. It is one of the most popular landscapes and most visited points of interest. From there, near the cliffs, you can enjoy a totally unique sunset.

Caló des Morts

Caló des Morts is 10km from Sant Francesc Xavier. It is an almost virgin cove that is integrated into the Bay of Migjorn. It is scarcely 70 meters long, in which you can do some of the best excursions: from a walk along the coast of Migjorn to walking along the small paths that follow towards the ascent of La Mola. Caló des Morts is a natural paradise located on the coast of Formentera.

Las Salinas

The Salinas de Formentera are located in the Natural Park of Ses Salines. Declared a Natural Park in 2001, it is one of the essential visits to be made in the Balearic archipelago. The territory extends to the south of Ibiza and the north of Formentera. Las Salinas stand out for its rich flora and fauna, spectacular more if possible for the enclave in which they are framed.

Isla Espalmador

As we told you a few weeks ago, Espalmador is a privately owned island located north of Formentera. There are no restaurants or establishments there. This is precisely what gives it such beauty; that remains untapped year after year, this being the main attraction of all those who seek a natural paradise within the Balearic Islands.

What are you waiting for to travel to Formentera? You can get there from Ibiza, with the Aquabus ferries.
