Who said Ibiza was only famous for its spectacular landscapes and nightlife? Discover in this post 6 delightful gastronomic dishes typical of the island.

1. Sofrit pagès

It consists of a stew that mixes different meats with potatoes, vegetables and the island’s most typical cold meats: the sobrasada and the butifarra. These give it an intense and unique flavour. This dish is usually accompanied by a soup that is served as a starter. In order to make this garnish we use the broth of the meat used in the main dish and we mix it with sofrito (sauté), tomato, pepper, bay leaves and a branch of marjoram. This way we’ll enjoy a full, delicious and traditional meal!

2. Squid stuffed with sobrasada

The fish and seafood caught on Ibiza’s coast are a spectacle of sensations for our palete. Cephalopods are the island’s freshest marine species. They’re valid for any garnish: boiled rice, fried potatoes, peppers and garlic. These squid stuffed with sobrasada becomes the ideal alternative that mixes the flavour of the sea with the ibizan sausage.

3. Fried octopus

Fried octopus is the star dish of the ibizan tapas. Currently, this recipe is in constant evolution, becoming a main dish in many of the island’s restaurants given that it’s a tasty and attractive course for octopus lovers. This dish is served quite hot and can be accompanied by payés bread and a good wine.

4. Bullit de peix

One of the most representative dishes of the island’s traditional restaurants is the bullit de peix. This elaborated dish is made on a fish platter (grouper, red sea scorpion fish, john dory from San Pedro, etc) covered with a soft alioli sauce, saffron and, in some cases, even vegetables. Do we fancy a second course? We can prepare plenty of rice with the broth left over from our fish and cuttlefish. Seafood cuisine in its purest form.

5. Ibizan nougat

Christmas knocks on Ibiza’s door and we can’t forget the traditional homemade almond nougat. The secret behind this sweet christmas dessert lies in finding the exact cooking point. The nougat can’t be served raw, but its texture must remain soft, similar to that of the marzipan. It’s important for the almonds to be of top quality. Some add a pinch of cinnamon to this sweet in order to give it a more intense flavour, a matter of taste.

6. Orelletes

You can find this sweet in all popular fiestas, weddings and celebrations in Ibiza. It consists of flour cakes sprinkled with sugar. They’re usually cooked they day before their tasting.
