Our blog, your guide
This village of artisans and farmers, presided over by the Puig de Missa hill, is a real wonder. Sant Miquel de Balansat will surprise you with its charming whitewashed houses, its beautiful coves and a lush landscape full of pine forests.
If you’re looking for a quiet place, far from the large crowds that are so characteristic of Ibiza’s other towns, you will love San Miquel de Balansat. Located in the municipality of Sant Joan de Labritja, this magical town will always welcome you with open arms.
Sant Miquel is a small town which, despite its growth in recent years, has managed to preserve that relaxed and peaceful atmosphere that so many yearn for.
Its main attraction, though not its only one, is the church of Sant Miquel, located at the top of Puig de Missa, a hill that rises above the villages of Sant Miquel and Santa Eulària, and from where you can enjoy magnificent views of both the coast and the surrounding pine forests and agricultural fields.
Sant Miquel is a fairly small village, with some modern buildings and a wide variety of shops, especially those on its main street.
On the way up to the church, there are several workshops belonging to well-known local craftsmen, a rural hotel and a tobacconist’s shop which, despite its long history, has remained practically the same as it was a century ago.
Very close by you can visit a viewpoint located in a small square. There, you will find a bronze sculpture dedicated to the famous Ibizan poet Marià Villangómez.
In addition, in Sant Miquel you can see exhibitions of country dancing, visit the craft market held on Thursdays, or enjoy the gastronomy of its port, a more touristy area located a few kilometres away, where we also recommend you visit the Caves of Can Marçà.
If you approach this town from the Ibiza Road, the church of Sant Miquel - also known as the church of Santa Eulària - will welcome you with open arms.
The church was built in the 16th century on top of an older construction and is one of the four churches that were also built as a fortress to defend neighbouring towns from corsair attacks. Today, from the top of Puig de Missa you can not only travel back in time, but you are also invited to enjoy a spectacular view of the entire coast, fields and surrounding hills.
Its central nave has two chapels, and its interior features 17th century frescoes and a Baroque altarpiece from the Church of San Millán in Segovia.
It’s well worth climbing to the top of Puig de Missa at sunset and letting oneself be amazed by one of Ibiza’s most beautiful sunsets.
The Port of Sant Miquel is a tourist area frequented by families, with a beautiful beach surrounded by cliffs.
Here, you’ll find a wide variety of shops, souvenir boutiques, supermarkets and many restaurants where you can enjoy the island’s typical bullit de peix, fresh fish and many other Mediterranean dishes.
Also, if you feel like it, you can practice all kinds of water sports, such as water skiing, surfing or scuba diving.
Oh! We almost forgot… Don't forget to visit the Can Marçà Caves and their spectacular limestone rock formations. Simply astounding!
