Today, we’ll show you some of the best places to dive in Ibiza and Formentera. Ready? Jump in and join us!
One of the best places for diving in Ibiza is the Cave of Cala Llonga, better known as “La Catedral” (the Cathedral). It is located to the south of the town of Santa Eulària des Riu at a depth of more than 25 metres. Hands down, it’s one of the favourite places for countless divers.
Its interior is characterised by an enormous dome where you can contemplate amazing limestone formations and enjoy a beautiful play of light.
Another diving hotspot is the Cove of Light, also known as “Ullal de na Coloms”. It is located in the northern part of Ibiza, near the municipality of Sant Mateu d’Albarca. This inaccessible place is highly prized by divers. It is a flooded cave, where seawater enters through an underwater gallery and creates a beautiful natural pool. This surprising place, only three metres from the surface and with a wide vault, is filled with natural light due to a crack in its formation. Truly fascinating!
You can also discover the Ibizan seabed on the islet of Es Daus, where you will find the abandoned remains of the merchant ship Don Pedro; or in some quieter coves, such as Cala Bassa, Cala d'Hort, Talamanca beach or Sa Caleta.
The island of Formentera also gives you the opportunity to enjoy the best aquatic dives, thanks to its crystal-clear waters that provide great visibility of its underwater secrets.
Some of the best places to dive in Formentera are: the Arco, located in the interior of the Es Freus Reserve, between Punta Rasa and Punta Gavina; the Punta Rasa Caves, located at the base of some cliffs in the Es Racó Alt area; Punta Prima, a deep dive only recommended for experienced divers; Punta sa Gavina and its small inside cave; Rocabella or Es Blanc, ideal for contemplating the posidonia oceanica meadows and a great diversity of fauna species.
If you want to get started in scuba diving or improve your skills, you’ll find multiple schools in Ibiza and Formentera with specialised instructors and all the equipment you need available for renting. You can take courses at different levels, as well as guided dives that will allow you to discover the best diving places in the area.
In Ibiza, you will find diving schools in Portinatx, in the municipality of Sant Joan; in Sant Josep de Sa Talaia; in the port of Ibiza; in Sant Antoni de Portmany; on the beach of Cala Martina, in Santa Eulària des Riu; or in Cala Tarida, in Sant Josep, among many others.
In Formentera, you will find different diving schools and centres in the port of La Sabina.
