The best green tourism suggestions in Ibiza and Formentera

The islands of Ibiza and Formentera have a unique environment that is worth discovering due to their heritage and natural values.

They stand out for their forests, cliffs, beaches, coves, natural spaces and, most importantly, for their Posidonia oceanica meadows, the reason behind the quality and transparency of the islands’ waters. If you want to enjoy the most authentic nature and the greenest tourism, here you will find several suggestions!

Ses Salines Natural Park in Ibiza and Formentera

The Natural Park of Ses Salines, with approximately 3.000 land and 13.000 marine hectares, is located in the southern part of Ibiza and to the north of Formentera.

You can visit the Ses Salines Interpretation Centre and learn about the park's natural surroundings: its beaches, dune systems, ponds, and incredibly diverse flora and fauna. It is worth mentioning that Ses Salines

is also an important refuge for many birds, such as the flamingo, the osprey and the peregrine falcon.

If you feel like it, you can also go hiking, diving, or just simply enjoy the scenery.

Caves of Can Marcà in Ibiza

The Can Marçà Caves are located in the northern part of Ibiza, close to Port de Sant Miquel or Port Balansat.

Along a route of some three hundred and fifty metres, you can take an underground tour of the cave and discover the Entrance Hall, the Cascade Hall and the Lake of Wishes, among many other incredible spaces.

Also, don't miss the panoramic view from the top of the cliffs that you can access through the path that leads you to the cave’s entrance. The views are magnificent!

The Nature Reserve of es Vedrà, es Vedranell i els illots de Ponent

You will find this protected natural area in Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, in the southwest of the island.

The islet of Es Vedra is one of the most enigmatic places on the island of Ibiza. Its landscapes are incredibly diverse, but the area is totally protected meaning that you won’t be able to visit it. We recommend that you contemplate the islets from a nearby area or, if you prefer, you can also do so from a boat.

Another good idea is to enjoy the nature show as the sun sets behind the islet, from the Es Savinar tower or from Cala d'Hort. Simply fabulous!

Natural protected area of s'Estany des Peix in Formentera

Estany des Peix is a small lagoon, open to the sea at a point known as Sa Boca, where it is common to see some anchoring boats.

It is located to the west of the port of La Savina and is surrounded by small coves with shallow waters with very little swell. It is the ideal place for spending a day with the family, especially with younger children, as well as for practising water sports like sailing or canoeing.

Tagomago marine reserve in Ibiza

This natural space of great ecological value is located on the northeast coast of Ibiza, next to the islets of Sa Conillera and Es Vedrà.

You will find one of the best panoramic views of this islet from the Torre d'en Valls, from where you will be able to contemplate some small coves and numerous cliffs. The island is also home to a private dwelling, a lighthouse and a beach club.

Tagomago stands out for being an important refuge for migratory birds, for its large extensions of Posidonia oceanica, and for its great diversity of flora and fauna.
