The hippy movement, emerged in the state of California, was very popular in the old continent and Ibiza became in a favourite destination. The Spanish tourism boom, towards the end of the dictatorship of General Franco, pulled to Ibiza a large number of people. The Ibiza hippy community became in about 4,000 people.
In 1969, Barbet Schroeder filmed the movie “More”, with the band Pink Floyd. The cult acceptance of the movie, at that time, was a claim that intensified the arrival of free spirits to the Island of Bes. Soon writers, painters, and other artists began to be a part of the landscape of the island itself.
The open and hospitable people of Ibiza greatly helped the integration of these newcomers who, over the time, began to earn a living with their own handicrafts. Jewellery, shoes, or small furniture, were their creations.
The markets served to expose their art and market their creations. These markets still exist and are a must-see on the island of Ibiza.
